Asbestos and Aluminum Siding Replacement in Delaware County, PA
Plenty of Springfield, PA houses still carry the aluminum or cement-shingle siding they were built or first resided with. We take aluminum off as part of the siding work. Asbestos-cement siding does not: a state-licensed abatement company removes it first.
- Aluminum siding removed and replaced
- Asbestos abatement by a licensed company, never by us
- New fiber cement or vinyl afterward
Do you remove asbestos siding?
No. We do not remove, cut or disturb asbestos-cement siding. In Pennsylvania, asbestos abatement takes workers holding individual Department of Labor and Industry certification and a company holding an Asbestos Contractor certification. A licensed abatement company removes it, and once it is gone we install new fiber cement or vinyl siding.
The Department of Labor and Industry publishes its list of certified abatement companies; the link is in the sources below.

What does asbestos siding look like?
Asbestos-cement siding usually comes as stiff, flat shingles or sheets laid in overlapping rows, often pressed with a texture meant to look like wood grain. It is brittle, chips at corners and can show white efflorescence. Looks are only a clue: EPA says the only way to be sure is testing by a qualified laboratory.
InterNACHI describes it as Portland cement reinforced with asbestos fibers, made as siding and shingles from the early 1900s and popular until it fell out of use in the 1970s.

Is asbestos siding dangerous?
Not while it is intact and left alone. EPA advises leaving asbestos material in good condition undisturbed, because fibers are released when it is damaged, cut, sanded, drilled or scraped. InterNACHI notes cement siding is brittle and can crack under a pressure washer. Removal or repair should be done only by trained, accredited professionals.
That is why we never nail through, cut or pry asbestos-cement shingles, and why we will not put new siding over damaged ones.
How an asbestos-siding replacement is sequenced
- Test if unsureA trained, accredited inspector takes samples; a qualified lab confirms what it is.
- Licensed abatementYou hire a state-certified abatement company to remove it. We can share the scope so their quote matches ours.
- Wall checkWith the old shingles gone, we inspect sheathing and flashing and repair what needs it.
- New sidingWall wrap, flashing and fiber cement or vinyl siding, priced on our estimate.
How is aluminum siding replaced?
Aluminum siding comes off in full panels, usually with less mess than other materials, and it is often recyclable as scrap metal. Under it we look for dented or wet sheathing and old foam backer board. Then new wall wrap, flashing and fiber cement or vinyl siding go on. Dented aluminum is hard to patch invisibly.
Small dents and loose panels can sometimes be repaired instead; see vinyl and aluminum siding repair.
